Take an unforgettable journey into the realm of the Norse thunder god, Thor. We leave Iceland’s capital city Reykjavik and head to the characteristic lowlands of the agricultural south - before lowering the tyre pressure and venturing off the beaten track into the dramatic environs of the Thorsm0rk valley.

We leave Reykjavik via Iceland’s Highway #1, stopping at planned (and unplanned) intervals to take in the views along the way. One such stop is at the viewpoint overlooking the greenhouse community of Hveragerði with its exotic surrounds of green copper-tinted mountains and steamy hot springs. In clear weather you can see the Westman Islands from here, one of which, Heimaey, (the only inhabited island) was the scene of an unexpected volcanic eruption in 1973.

We continue south, making a brief comfort stop in Hvolsvöllur before stopping to view the Seljalandsfoss waterfall. It is very popular to take a walk behind the waterfall’s curtain and it can occasionally get congested at this stop - but fear not, as we have another hidden gem to introduce you to close by.

And now it’s time to deflate the tyres in preparation for the rough trails ahead as we begin our adventure into the Thorsmork valley. The valley is an area of extreme natural beauty, blessed with countless hiking paths and breath taking views over braiding rivers and glistening ice caps.

Following lunch its back on the trail and on to the Básar hiking lodge where we explore some of the hiking trails and hot spots, before returning to Reykjavik.
