Golden Circle Tour for cruise ships
From Reykjavík port to enchanting Thingvellir National Park, the impressive Gullfoss waterfall and the geyser Strokkur.
What’s on my tour
This tour has been specially crafted to fit seamlessly into the itinerary of travelers arriving by cruise ship during the summer season. This tour will fit perfectly within the time on land, as we align our schedule with the docking time of an arriving ship. If there are any delays, we adjust the tour’s start time accordingly so you can explore without worries, knowing everything is set for a smooth and unforgettable experience.
Our itinerary takes you to some of Iceland’s most stunning and historically significant sites, offering a perfect blend of nature, geology, and culture.
First and foremost, we visit a site of immense historical and geological significance, which has earned the designation of a UNESCO World Heritage Site: Þingvellir. Here is where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates slowly drift apart, creating dramatic rifts in the landscape. You will wander along scenic trails, marvel at unique rock formations, and witness the crystal-clear waters of the Silfra fissure, where divers and snorkelers explore one of the world’s clearest underwater sites.
However, Þingvellir is not only a site of breathtaking natural beauty but also a place deeply cherished and respected by the Icelandic people. As the location where Iceland’s first parliament, Alþingi, was established in 930 AD, it holds immense historical and cultural significance. This was where early Icelanders gathered to make laws, settle disputes, and shape the nation’s identity—a tradition that continued for centuries. Beyond its historical importance, Þingvellir is also a symbol of national pride and heritage. Many key moments in Iceland’s history, including its official declaration of independence in 1944, took place here.
After that, prepare to witness Iceland’s geothermal energy in action at the Geysir geothermal area. While the original Great Geysir erupts only rarely, its more active neighbor, Strokkur, reliably shoots boiling water up to 30 meters (100 feet) into the air every few minutes. The surrounding landscape is dotted with bubbling hot springs, steaming vents, and colorful mineral deposits, creating an otherworldly atmosphere that showcases Iceland’s volcanic heart.
Furthermore, we visit one of Iceland’s most breathtaking waterfalls: Gullfoss, a true force of nature. The Hvítá River plunges in two dramatic tiers into a deep canyon, creating a spectacular display of power and beauty. On sunny days, mist from the falls often creates shimmering rainbows, adding to its ethereal charm. In winter, parts of the waterfall freeze, creating a magical ice sculpture-like effect. Multiple viewing platforms allow you to take in the falls from different angles, offering incredible photo opportunities.
To finish our day, we stop at Kerið, a remarkable volcanic crater that formed over 3,000 years ago, featuring a stunning lake at its center. Unlike many craters, Kerið boasts vivid red and orange slopes that contrast beautifully with the deep blue water below. You can walk along the rim for panoramic views or descend to the crater floor for an up-close look at this geological wonder—it’s like stepping onto another planet
We put full emphasis on nature and culture as we tell stories when we ease through the surroundings in a small group. The tour is operated in a minibus and does not exceed more than 19 people. This way the guide can connect to all passengers and a much nicer vibe is created during the day.
